Your purse is on fire!




This week's most wanted is a David Bailey 1960s portrait. Pure Sixties, Pure Bailey is a collection of the 72- year old photographer's black and white images on sale at Bonhams. As a child of the sixties, this is the perfect way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of my decade. But That's Not My Age can't decide between Jean Shrimpton and Mick Jagger - though the Shrimp's brilliant quote about Bailey might just sway me, 'Women love him. Gays adore him. Children and animals run to him. Mother's dote on him. He is universally attractive, except to fathers.'

Which portrait would you choose?


If you're in London, there's also a small pop-up exhibition celebrating 50 years of Carnaby Street.

Pure Sixties, Pure Bailey runs from March 7 to April 7.

    I would go for the Mick image I think it is more Iconic.

    I just think the woman's eyes in the top portrait are captivating. So ethereal she is! That's who'd I choose.

    There's something about black and white portraiture that always captivates. Without the distraction of color, so much personality comes through.

    The woman in the top picture is absolutley stunning - I would choose her. The Mick Jagger shot is ok - but reminds me a little too much of Liam Ghallegher for some reason!

    DP - I just saw the Irving Penn exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery and his close-up shots are beautiful, you're right about the personality coming through.

    If you love Bailey, there is a very nice book that he did which, if I recall correctly, is called "Models". I found my edition a a second-hand bookshop. Inside, he conducts interviews with most of the models he photographed (and some fashion editors such as the late Liz Tilberis) + explains how the role of the model evolved over the decades.
