Unlike Jenny Joseph, when I'm old I want to wear crazy cat's eye sunglasses, Liz Taylor earrings and fabulous designer frocks. Preferably Marni. Just like the women in this Stunning Old Lass shoot, from the latest issue of Ponystep magazine.
I asked Ponystep's associate editor and resident That's Not My Age menswear expert Paul Tierney for his thoughts on the style at any age scenario, 'I'm always saddened when older people dress like teenagers, but I believe you can get away with well cut, interesting clothes at any age if you have the personality to support them. These ladies have poise and character. They're not trying to look 21. They're not even trying to look 61!'
Here's to growing old fashionably.

you know i think these ladies probably dressed a lot like this when they were younger. i will probably dress the same way i do now. of course by the time i'm 80 all my clothes will be vintage so that will be awesome too.
Way to go ladies!...we are as young as we feel....and groovy clothes make us feel young.....and look good too!

Here's a thought: Can women get away with this eccentric look only if they are bone-sucking thin? Does dressing whimisically if you are heavy make you look like Tilly from the circus? So your answer is probably liposuction.
We shared a box at a string quartet concert the other evening with the most charming older women (late 70s?) wearing a black peasant dress with a brightly coloured woven sash, bare legs, grey-streaked hair pulled back into a beautiful, easy chignon. No make-up on her well-lined face but her magnificent cheekbones and lively eyes could not have been more gorgeous. Even more noticeable was her warmth and her evident interest in the world around her. Not only did she make an effort to get to know us, but at intermission she introduced us to friends, and all were very patient with our French. I think this genuine engagement in the world translates into an ineffable style that truly inspires.
In that last shot she is owning that look! I think Michellebeth may be on to something, thin and groomed is the only way you can pull off these looks me thinks.
