It's been an intense few days. I spent the entire duration of We Need to Talk About Kevin in a state of buttock-clenching anxiety. Which was probably quite good for my core muscles. Pale, gaunt and tortured, Tilda Swinton, 50, is perfectly cast as the mother of a teenage sociopath:
The award-winning film is like a Martin Margiela ad - visually rich and stylised. Though I need to be careful here because in the latest issue of Vogue, Swinton the Serious Actor eschews fashion, ' What I wear for myself in life is what I feel like wearing at the time. And when it comes to walking down a red carpet in a foreign city, it just becomes a question of what's the right thing to wear tonight. It's no more complicated than that.'

And if that wasn't enough tension for one week, I dragged the Blog Widower to see Jerusalem with Mark Rylance, 49. Fantastic. I'm more of a film fan than a theatre-goer - as a youngster, my mum always used to take me to the cinema on my birthday - so this is easily the best play I've ever seen. Powerful, poignant, wild. Rylance is superb. The performance of his career, and all that. Go and see it if you're in London soon (it's on till 14 Jan 2012) - oh and Daisy from Downton is in it too.

Love your blog... I live in Toronto and was sooooo excited that 'We Need to Talk About Kevin' was coming to TIFF!!! ( Toronto International Film Festival) Of course I went to the premiere and Tilda was STUNNING in her emerald green silk pyjama/tuxedo Belgian designer with awesome stilettos outfit!-awesome question/answer session apres movie. I am in love with her and have been for a while - I guess since Orlando. Anyhoo, she truly wears her clothes,like is totally committed at all times to her choices which is a real joy to see. Have you seen 'I am Love' ( I think it's Sono L'Amore) OMG!!!! more amazeballs/Tilda in her clothes awesomness...
Tilda is incredible. I won't see Kevin The Movie though - the book gave me nightmares for months ...
I love Tilda. She is wonderful...fantastic actress and always looks beautiful. I'm looking forward to seeing the film.

this movie has Oscars written all over it. when i heard that they were making a movie after i had read the book, i couldn't contain my excitement!
it is well cast and executed.
Tiffany/Mr Nyanzi - the book is mind-blowing but I'd watch Tilda in anything. And yes, definitely an Oscar-worthy performance.
We Need To Talk About Kevin is one of my favourite books and I was glad to read in last Saturday's Guardian that Lionel Shriver's delighted with the film.Tilda Swinton rocks. x
I love Tilda Swinton, and the movie "I am Love" is great, and she has the most incredible clothing in it. Each outfit more mouth watering than the next.
I did read the book (About Kevin) and although it is a very tough subject, I'm looking forward to the movie.
Looking forward to seeing the film - she's such a fab actress, isn't she.

Damn! Like Tiffany, I rather feel the book was enough for me. Superb, yes, but too difficult to want to watch a movie version. But how can I avoid the opportunity to watch Swinton -- did you see the marvellous job she did in I Am Love. So I'll follow your lead and watch it as a complement to my Pilates class, butt-clenching, core-strengthening and all . . .
