The Right Trousers

OK, so I'd like to say that I returned from New York with a pair of fabulous black cigarette pants tucked away inside the soap dish on wheels but sadly I did not. My attempts at a Stateside shopping frenzy were pretty lame, half-assed at the best of times - though we have added a battered antique globe and a 1940s subway map to our collection of random nick-nackery. My overall impression is that this season trousers are either super-skinny or super-flared. If you're looking for something in-between either accept it´s going to be a long-haul ride or as they say on t´other side of the Atlantic, fuhgetaboutit. The trousers in the picture are from Jaeger, they´re slightly longer than my ideal pair but add a matching tailored jacket and the black and nude combination is a wearable, trans-seasonal look. As for the right trousers, people, the search continues...

Any ideas?

The nick knackery sounds pretty good though, sit in your pants and enjoy!

I wish I knew too. Will keep a look out and let you know if I find any. Your other fins sound good though.

Yeah, I scored an epic fail (13-year-old son's words) at shopping stateside also. And the pants - any pants, all pants - continue to elude me. I want black velvet skinnies, charcoal wool wide-leg, etc, but having no luck anywhere.

Check out the new Talbots Catalog - lots of slacks, some rolled up (not sure about that look), but a lot of them a bit shorter showing off heels.

Pant let perfect...agree a bit shorter for summer flats. I have decided it is impossible to find the perfect tousers! They cant't be to wide or to tight, must be straight..thinking Audrey Hepburn for fuller figures. So.so fustrating !

Good luck with that one...let me know if you find the perfect pair...I will let you know if I see them too !
We can do a post watch on the perfect trousers :)
I will write about my finds over at www.cashmerejeans.blogspot.com

Thanks for keeping on with the search Tish!

Do they exist? I think that's whay I prefer a long skirt to a pair of trousers, easier to take up and they are more forgiving of my lop-sided hips. xxx

Why do you want in between?

What about J.Crew?

Or, what if you got some straight legs, then tailored them?

have you tried Theory? i've had great success with that label. it's pricey but worth it; an investment in updated classics. Theory's construction, fit and fabric are excellent.

Lee - I saw the Julianne Moore/ Talbots ads when I was in New York, really need to check that label out.

Jeanne - I'll keep you posted about perfect pants.

Elizabeth - I thought J Crew was fab, they had some really nice stuff. I tried on a couple of pairs but they were very similar to my Gap Capri pants.

StyleOdyssey - love Theory and I tried on a pair of the Theyskens' Theory pants (which were a bit out of my price range) but wasn't sure about the front pleats.

I think I will withdraw from the search for perfect trousers this season then, sounds like it will be 10 times harder than usual for a petite curvy size 12!

have recently bought a fab straight-black-pair in Mango.....haven't stopped weaing them.....very long and very cheap!! Apparently in Spain they make them long so all the short Spanish ladies can take them up to fit their tiny legs!!

i got mine today in Zara - perfect and only £39.99. Cigarette pants just on the ankle, they do them in black and camel.
PS I also have the soap dish on wheels, looking forward to taking it out for the first time next week to Bruges

I love those trousers! I never shop as much as I'd like to. Plus I never have enough money. Every time we go away I ended up owing The Actor money.

Glad you had a good trip, you didn't really miss that much during fashion week. I could have done without all the hangovers. I never learn! The odd thing is I never felt even slightly drunk at any point, it must be my age! Or mixing my drinks more likely.

Have a lovely weekend xx
