Quote of the week: Inés de la Fressange

In the week when Romeo Beckham, aged 8, made a surprise entry into GQ magazine's Most Stylish List, it feels right to turn to an older model for some sensible advice. Reminiscing about her on-off-back-on-again relationship with Karl Lagerfeld, Inés de la Fressange, 53, recalls a promotional tour in America, in the eighties, when the pair stopped their limousine at a hot dog stand for sustenance. KL (dressed in a tuxedo and carrying a fan, of course) only had a hundred dollar bill, so came back to the car and sent IdlF (full-length dress and pearls) back to buy the hot dogs:

'Never go out with rich people - you always end up paying!'

Wise words.

Love it! Hmmm strange - my ex-husband never carried any cash - just credit cards. Funny that now I do not even own a credit card. x

Isn't it just the best quote/story and advice I rushed out for the Guardian this morning at 7 to get it!

I adore Ines! Did you know she's publishing a style book this spring?

Very funny!
Her book's already out in France, it's a bit lightweight and states the bleedin' obvious but no doubt she'll make enough to keep paying Karl's bills.

Great Quote. I never hang around with rich people because it makes me feel so bloody poor!

Brilliant! Karl wouldn't touch a hot dog these days now he's so slim. It must be much duller for him xx

Spectacularly true - we have family friends who are worth about US$500 million, but whenever we meet up, we foot the bill :) Maybe that's how they got so loaded?

Ahem TNMA I woke up this morning with a premonition of impending senile dementia! Having realised I written the Guardian instead of Harpers - which I had rushed out to get as well as the Guardian because my ruddy subscription still hadn't turned up and the new edition in my local Tesco Express was talking to me.

Why on earth I'm in this ridiculous state of non zen like mania in January is beyond me!

the only good thing about this is that my mind is intact and can remain information even when I've mistyped/written.

Deja Pseu & Tabitha - think I need to get myself a copy of Ines' book, must be full of fabulous Karl stories - as well as bleedin' obvious style tips!

Christina - too true. Can't imagine skinny Karl eating junk food.

Loving the quote. When I was a student I had 2 friends from very wealthy backgrounds who were always turning up at my house at god forsaken hours asking to borrow money. I always got it back though. Xxxx
