Year-round style

August. The month when That's Not My Age has one eye on the dishevelled sale rail (so what if it's jammed at the back of the store right next to the toilets, I have no shame when it comes to a bargain) and the other on the shiny new autumn/winter collections. Fashion is a topsy-turvy world and, when the seasons change over, it's best to stick to timeless styles that work all year round. Which is why I love this outfit from Hobbs (A/W2010). A Breton top and maxi skirt - OK that's a sweater in the picture but it could easily be a t-shirt - look just as fabulous teamed with plimsolls in summer, as with classic brogues and argyle socks in autumn. Talk about easy style.

And, sorry can't get Kristen McMenamy, 46, out of my head - Hobbs' gorgeous shearling coat instantly brought the middle-aged crush du jour to mind. As seen in the latest issue of Dazed and Confused.

Not sure about you but think I prefer the Vogue fashion story.

Do you have any transitional fashion favourites?

Ah, now THAT is how to wear a maxi skirt. I love the Breton paired with a chunky necklace.

Kristen McMenamy looks amazing and it is wonderful to see from the 2 shoots that she is still so versitile. I think she looks younger in the Dazed shoot. Loving the Maxi and Bretton. I didnt succome to a sumer maxi. Maybe it will be something i do this winter. Xxxx

Love the Hobbs outfit, but sadly at only 5 foot nothing, itwould look faintly ridiculous on me.......

I'm thrilled that Kristen McMenamy has made a comeback, she was a big favourite of mine back in the 1980's. xxx

I also think I'd be drowned in the Hobbs outfit. But if I stood on my tippy toes and stretched, maybe it wouldn't look quite so ridiculous.

Oh, I LOVE that first shot. I want to wear a maxi, but at 5 ft 4 I think I'm too short :(

I love all of these. There's a Hobbs right near me in Upper Street but I never go in. I must go and have a look in there. I also have a thing for big fluffy coats xx

I've enjoyed seeing K.M. come back into the pages of the mags.

Seasonless and timeless style work best for longevity, and value for money. Trouble is, I get bored and want a change of seasons and a change in clothes to go with the change of seasons. Otherwise everything feels like Groundhog Day to me.

Love the Hobbs Breton - I went straight to the website and tried to find it... maybe not on yet? Funny that we have sale rails in all the stores here at the moment full of wintery clothes but we are all looking forward to Spring and seeing the new items coming in! x

One of my friends said she thought my blog was just for tall people (I'm tall, that's my excuse!) so to prove I'm not sizeist/elitist I'm going to find an alternative skirt for my more petite readers. That's Not My Age - fashion for everyone!

SE - I think Hobbs are still in sale, but I'm sure the autumn collection will be coming soon.

I always go straight to the sale rail. It's like a drug I cannot wean myself off. I need new clothes now...what shops do you recommend that are not too pricey, classic, and have a good sale rail?

yes Kristen is so different from all the other models you see out there.

My MIL (yes, she's a gem) gave me a lovely, aubergine coloured, very light cashmere cardigan. It's the perfect piece of clothing for this time of year.

I'm feeling sailor stripes right now too and want to shop for bargains though I said I'm NOT shopping so that's a problem. Opps.

White tees every season every year. In fact t-shirts that feel luxurious can come in a few colousr and still feel transitional to me.

Great article. Polki jewelry with colored stones is just perfect for any Indian outfit. I purchased a very rare color dress and luckily I found perfect matching jewelry from the site www.kaneesha.com. They carry such an extensive range of designs and colors that you will find what you want. I will highly recommend this site.
