'If you're having a nervous breakdown or going through a hideous divorce, a nice dress is not going to save your marriage or get you out of having a nervous breakdown. Maybe some great medication will. But because of the whole celebrity culture, the media perpetuating the need for women to be perfect and size zero, a lot of women feel very insecure, so in a way we're reacting against that, in the sense of saying, you know what? You don't need to lose three stone to be acceptable..... You don't need to have a tit job. We never, ever talk about weight or beauty or looks. We would never work with a size 16 woman and say, "Look, when you lose two stone then we'll dress you." We would never fucking do that. Because she is the size she is.'

You know they take a lot of stick, but I am actually a huge fan of Trinny and Susannah. A lot of women genuinely, have not a clue how to dress, or what suits their shape, colouring etc etc and just give up. I have seen the confidence, hence the lives of people change, after a good session with a good personal shopper or colour/image consultant. There is too much media pressure to be perfect and the majority of us are not and never will be xx
Yes, I agree with Wildernesschic - I know T and S are bossy at times but they do know what they are talking about... Am extremely excited as in Oz we have new series of T and S in America beginning this Thursday. Can't wait.x
I think they're a good laugh, most of the time. They're pretty harmless really, and I don't think they take themselves that seriously either.
Brilliant!!!!!I have been fowolling them when I go on holiday every year to see the English side of the family. And I do love this article. Enough of size 0.
Thank you for your post

At least they are women dressing women. Xxxx
I totally agree with you. Amen xx
Yeah, I'm with the others, they do get a bad press but most of the time do a great job and greatly boost the confidence of those who need it.
At least they don't avocate surgery and dieting.

Stupid Skinny Trinny, easy for her to say that, with her bony back, saw a pic of her in a backless dress, it was seriously gross! If she doesn't advocate dieting, why has she gone to a size 0 from the acceptable size she was beforehand?
Used to love these two years ago when they wrote for the Telegraph on Saturday. Think they have been overexposed over the years and the stuff they did about going naked was cringe worthy. They probably have good intentions tho@
I think they're great; Trinny has always been skinny but she lost alot of weight at the time of separating from her husband, not because she dieted.
I haven't worn a round necked top for over 6 years because of them....
Hooray.
Its easy to say it doesn't matter if you're a size 16 when clearly you're not a size 16.Perhaps if either of them walked the talk it would seem less condescending?
We're all different-lets just embrace it.
I agree with the sentiment though and I have bought one of their books.
Well said. The mindset of 'I'll be happy when...slimmer/younger looking/better dressed etc' is so destructive. xx

I love this quote though I do know it's tough to hear from women who don't have a problem with weight. It just doesn't carry the same weight so to speak.
Love it! I don't always agree with their style guidelines, but really appreciate their candor and this attitude.
Taken simply as a collection of words, the message behind them is hugely inspiring.
And then I see a picture of Trinny.
With such a lean frame and distressingly sharp bones, I think she could perhaps learn to heed her own wise words.

I just came across the new Trinny and Susannah show and watched the whole thing back-to-back. I love it, definitely a must watch! http://www.ts-wtdn.com
Thanks for all your comments - I knew I could rely on T&S to get a good response! I must admit I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with them (probably due to the overexposure Finchley Girl mentions). Sometimes I feel that they're just a pair of bossy toffs and then others, I quite like them. At the moment, I quite like them. They do offer good advice and I think this quote is inspiring. Though Trinny should practise what she preaches - she's starting to look like a pair of lips on a stick.
