After seeing a photograph of myself standing next to a smooth-skinned Mary Portas, That's Not My Age has decided something has got to be done about my wrinkles. I may be kidding myself about growing old gracefully sans Botox or surgery but I just can't face (make that afford) either. And anyway, I've had lines on my forehead forever. When I met Mr TNMA he thought I was frowning at him, obviously he didn't recognise the look of true love.
So I am testing this 'revolutionary product' by Dr Kadir who according to Elle is well known in the Middle East, a dermatologist with a celebrity following - Madonna and Jennifer Anniston are fans. The blurb says the moisturizing cream contains an award-winning, anti-ageing ingredient which helps decrease wrinkle depth. Apple Lift results in plumper, toned, youthful looking skin and has a high UVA protection factor as well a Vitamin E making it a potent natural weapon in fighting fine lines and wrinkles. Phew! Sounds like just what I need.
And time to 'fess up. Before Christmas I promised I would try out this introductory set from Aromatherapy Associates and report back with before and after shots, wrinkles and all.

But then Mr TNMA took some snaps and I was horrified by the results. So horrified, I had a Hugh Grant moment - no nothing to do with a hooker and a parked car, or worse Liz Hurley - I just empathized with Grant who on approaching his 50th birthday said, "I don’t really feel all that old in myself, I actually feel rather young and sprightly but then I see a picture of myself and think, ‘Christ, who is that old man?’” So, sorry but you won't be seeing any close up mug-shots after all. I'm just not brave enough, even Demi Moore got called old and ugly after spending two hundred thousand dollars on surgery, and posting photos on Twitter.
Anyhow, here's my belated verdict on the Aromatherapy Associates gift box, bearing in mind that I was just slapping products on randomly and not following instructions:
1. All the products smelled gorgeous and left my skin feeling super soft.
2. I will probably buy the Fine Line Face Oil even though my lines are not fine, they are of the Gordon Ramsay variety.
3. The Intensive Skin Treatment Oil helped soothe my painful, cracked heels.
And apparently Hugh Grant has started doing pilates to keep himself looking young - do you have any anti-ageing tips?

Smile! That's the best anti-aging tip I have. I don't believe the promises of products although I do believe in regular old moisturizer and sun screen.

I wish I did have some tips, if I did I wouldn't have been asking you lot about creme de la mer the other day. Let us know how you get on with the new cream, why doesn't someone give me some Revive or La Pairie to try out?
I do my facial exercises walking up the stairs to my top floor tenement flat. I just dread a neighbour opening their door as I'm passing by to find me doing a Les Dawson style gurn at them! x

TNMA, do you know the "exclusive ingredient"? I can't remember if cosmetic companies are required to list everything in the UK. I assume they aren't. Yes, I've got quite a few antiaging tips and you know where to find them!
I had a chuckle at Sarah's comment. My first tip would be Louise Annette's facial exercise program. Second, to take L-carnosine and benfotiamine caps as these will slow down and in some cases reverse glycation. Glycation is what causes breakdown of the collagen and elastin. Some skincare products now include carnosine or another anti-glycation agent. Third tip, appreciate yourself and radiate your inner beauty because this is what others will find beautiful in you. That might sound cheesy but it's so true. I think Mr TNMA should start posting, if only to encourage Don to get back to it. R x
Oh looking forward to hearing about product after you've tried. I've got no tips but I like Rosina's info - a lot!
I do pilates, but that is for my back not my face! Always moisturise twice a day, but my wrinkles are getting crater like by the day. I live opposite a botox clinic, but am not tempted. Enjoying life is the answer.
Well I am going to be really interested in the new Dr Kadir face cream you try... it is all so hard keeping the years (wrinkles) at bay... I A. cannot afford botox or related products and B. am to nervous to go there ... So, what is a girl to do?
I tend to think that all moisturizing creams are almost all equal and believe that it does not really matter what you put on so long as you DO! Have been using Superdrug's Vit E cream and also their anti age creams with fairly good results recently....x
I used to be a looker and now I am an Old Woman whose face reveals loads'o'sun damage, cigarette abuse and wrinkles. My 93 year old grandfather feels 22 and is shocked by his face. My tips- go blonde, stay thin, dress well, smile a lot, for God's sake care for your teeth, wear makeup and relaise that my dermatologist is not lying when he says creams don't work (they don't). Love helps. As in love your husband, or kids or friends or pet. It's all about genetics.xxxx PS I moisturise the bod never the face. True story.
Thank you all for your advice - I think the key then is to enjoy yourself, try facial exercises but don't gurn at the neighbours, take some of the capsules Rosina recommends (thank you for your top tips Middle Ageless!), use sun screen and moisturise (sorry FF you're over-ruled!), dress well and wear make-up (but we like your style (FF)!)
My best tip is to exercise like crazy.
Wrinkles haven't really been a problem for me, but I can see some sag in my face. Oil of Olay Regenerist night cream has helped. Still, it's kinda scary.
I tell you now that I've hit 40 and 41 is coming the skin is going. Dry patches galore. I got a Clarisonic which I really love but have to be careful with my sensitive skin. I'm still looking for the perfect Cleanser/ moisturizer. Haven't found it yet. Just started using Weleda though this week and kinda like the cream. Will try it for a while. Sigh. It never ends.
Oh I have dry hooves, I might try some of that oil. *Waves at Aromatherapy Associates*
Oh PS, I have tried Frownies (brown paper triangles you stick betwixt your eyebrows) but you have to wear them for four hours at a time. I didn't fancy wearing them to press days so I wore them in bed. D wasn't happy.
I don't think that creams work either - it's your genes, sun damage and smoking that does for your skin.
I have a forehead like a Shar Pei - always have done, but now I jut look angry all the time....and I am contemplating Restalyne (sp?) to my forehead.
Or having a fringe. I can't decide.
I suspect that once you start having Restalyne, it's a bit like Pringles - you can't stop after just the one pop.
Ali x
Phyllis - do you mean exercise the face like crazy, or the body? I've been wondering if I start on the facial exercises will it help the wrinkles or is it too late? And yes the sag is scary.
Kwana - let me know how you get on with the Weleda, I quite like their products.
RG - perhaps I could wear Frownies on a permanent basis to cover my wrinkles!
AC - think you're right about the Pringles/Restalyn. I too have been contemplating a fringe as a last resort.
I wouldn't mind wrinkles alone, but I still have spots too! Imagine trying to deal with the greasiest T zone in the world as well as frown lines between the eyebrows & on the forehead :-( No crows feet so far at 46 - does that mean I've spent too much time frowning & not enough smiling?
